WE HAVE BEGUN THE WORK – AND WITH YOUR HELP WE WILL ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVE!

Dear Friend

This letter is a very personal appeal, calling on you to join us, the leaders of Israel’s economy, together with eye doctors and eminent researchers in the field in achieving a wholly praiseworthy objective: the prevention of blindness and the promotion of research to stamp out degenerative eye diseases.

When it comes to the distress of patients suffering from atrophy of the retina, how can we, blessed with the gift of sight, look in the other direction?

These diseases cause the gradual but sure loss of the most essential capacities (reading, writing, identifying other people's facial features, watching television, orientation both indoors and outdoors).

It is simply not possible to disregard the HOPE that progress involving breakthrough research efforts brings to both – the sufferer and his/her family – It is their heartbreaking appeal that has brought the association to achieve this lofty aim: The initiation and implementation of research work to pinpoint effective treatment for diseases of the retina, which special emphasis on those which cause blindness.

The association, which I proud to head, have been set up to create the mechanism that will find a cure for the blind and the partially sighted.

The association focuses on detecting effective treatments for this disease, which hits children and which according the experts constitutes the perfect model for curing macular diseases.

In preparation for the establishment of the National Institute for Eye Care Research, a Scientific Council has been set up that comprised 50 members from the academic and medical worlds and includes 14 heads of Eye Departments in large Medical Centers, who will work in cooperation and conjunction with the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Health and with the relevant Government Ministers.

The intensive work done by the association among the heads of the Government establishment, brought about the allocation of preliminary funding for research and development on the subject of diseases causing blindness. 3 of the association's research groups have already submitted their proposals.

We have been given blessings by the President of the state of Israel and by the Minister of Health, but this is not enough. We have taken on ourselves to get together and harness the best human resources in the Israel economy, and we call on you, in our own name, and in the name of those of all ages whose sight is marred, to increase your CONTRIBUTION, that is destined to promote the activities of the Research Association on all fronts in the matter of setting up and operating the research institute in Israel.

We very much hope that we have succeeded in elucidating the immense value of your contribution.

We will be very happy to provide more information and to answer any questions you may have
